For industrial piping systems, flanged connections are one of the most widely used and reliable connection methods. Many valves, pumps and other pipeline components are equipped with flange connections, allowing them to be installed and removed easily without introducing unnecessary stress into the piping system. This makes flanged connections particularly suitable for applications where accessibility, ease of maintenance and operational reliability are important.
EN 1092-1 is the current European standard for circular steel flanges and provides a uniform classification based on different flange types and pressure ratings. Specifications that were previously covered by various DIN and ISO standards are now largely consolidated within this European standard.
EN 1092-1 is aligned with other European standards commonly used in industrial piping systems, including EN 10217-7 for welded stainless steel tubes and EN 10253-4 for stainless steel butt-welding fittings. This creates a consistent and standardized approach to the selection of compatible piping components for pressure applications.
By selecting components according to these standards, piping systems can be designed with a high degree of compatibility, reliability and safety. These standards also support compliance with requirements that may apply under the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU).
